Rules with official sources
A field is positive with at least 60 percent correct answers. If basic equivalence is established, six or more positive fields lead to exams for negative fields and possibly scientific work. Five or fewer positive fields lead to regular-curriculum exams and possibly scientific work.

Rezeptierkunde (Pharmakologie) and Gerichtliche Medizin are prescribed regardless of the Stichprobentest result because of country-specific differences.

You receive written notice of the evidence gathered and can respond within the deadline in that letter. The Bescheid follows completion of the investigation.

The Bescheid sets the required supplements and their deadline. Recognition follows only when all conditions are completed on time. Nostrification alone does not grant permission to practise medicine in Austria.

For applications from 1 August 2026, a thesis prescribed in the Bescheid follows MedUni Wien rules; after approval, an oral commission exam in the subject follows.
